The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) announced on Saturday that a peacekeeping soldier at the general headquarters in Naqoura was injured by gunfire due to ongoing military activity.

The UNIFIL explained that the injured soldier underwent surgery at the mission hospital in Naqoura to remove the bullet and is now in stable condition.

The UN force indicated that severe damage was caused to buildings at the United Nations site affiliated with Havi Ramieh on Saturday night due to explosions resulting from nearby bombing.

This came despite the fact that all sources confirmed that the UNIFIL soldier was injured by the Israeli occupation forces’ fire in the Labouneh area in southern Lebanon. However, the UNIFIL statement avoided indicating the occupation forces’ responsibility for the incident.

On Friday, the UN Security Council held an emergency session to discuss the Israeli occupation forces’ attack on UNIFIL.

In this context, the former head of the “Progressive Socialist Party” in Lebanon, Walid Jumblatt, said in a post on the “X” platform that “Israel attack on UNIFIL forces is a very bad sign at this particular moment in Lebanon’s history.”
