The head of the National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs, Abdul Qader Al-Murtada, met today, Wednesday, with the Deputy UN Envoy to Yemen, “Sarhad Fattah”, to discuss the implementation of the prisoner exchange deal.
Abdul Qader Al-Murtada explained in a post on his page on the “X” platform: that the meeting was held with the Deputy UN Envoy and during the meeting, practical proposals were discussed to implement the agreed exchange deal, which is being obstructed by the Islah Party.
In the meeting, the head of the Prisoners’ Committee expressed his readiness to implement all agreements without any preconditions, as well as his readiness to attend any new round of negotiations called for by the United Nations.
It is worth noting that the US Treasury imposed sanctions on the head of the National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs, Abdul Qader Al-Murtada, in early December, on allegations of torturing prisoners.
For his part, Al-Murtada refuted the American allegations, explaining that the allegations of practicing torture against prisoners and detainees are pure slander; Such an accusation is not consistent with his work as the head of a committee that manages its work and manages the negotiations on the prisoners’ file internally and externally, adding that he has no direct relationship with the prisoners, as he is not an investigation officer or a prison guard, so such an accusation could be directed at him.
Regarding the American allegations of carrying out arrests against journalists, activists and employees of organizations, Al-Murtada explained that the Americans were ignorant or ignored that the committee’s jurisdiction is only the prisoners of war file, as the committee is not a control body, nor is it a security body, so that it is within its jurisdiction to control and arrest.
