The Minister of Health and Environment, Dr. Ali Shaiban, met on Wednesday with Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, to discuss cooperation and partnership between the Ministry and the Organization.
The meeting addressed critical health issues related to the current situation in Yemen, the needs of the health sector, and ways to support community services and fixed health facilities, aiming to establish 4,000 health centers to meet the needs of citizens.
In the meeting, the Minister of Health confirmed that the need in Yemen is very large.
He stressed the need to mobilize greater resources from donors to cover health needs and raise the level of health in the country.
He pointed to the importance of strengthening support for primary health care and community activities. He stressed the need to invest in them to build a strong and sustainable health system.
Minister Ali Shaiban emphasized the importance of supporting a comprehensive supply system for medications and medical supplies, particularly for chronic conditions like dialysis, given the ongoing blockade on the country.
He stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Ministry and the Organization, to contribute to improving the level of health services provided.
For his part, the Director-General of the World Health Organization expressed his readiness to provide the necessary support and mobilize resources in line with the country’s needs, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts to address the current health challenges.
