Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi received on Wednesday, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), and his accompanying delegation, who are currently visiting Yemen.

At the start of the meeting, the Prime Minister welcomed the UN official and his delegation, highlighting the level of cooperation in the health sector, particularly emphasizing the importance of strengthening this cooperation to address urgent needs and contribute to supporting development plans in the sector.

Al-Rahawi pointed out the ongoing repercussions of the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression and blockade, which has lasted for ten years, impacting various sectors.

The Prime Minister also addressed the responsibilities of the Government of Change and Construction at the national level, including in the provinces and regions under Saudi-Emirati occupation.

He outlined the five guiding principles for cooperation with UN and international organizations operating in Yemen, underscoring their importance in stabilizing and fostering development across humanitarian and development fields.

Al-Rahawi praised the UN Secretary-General’s stance on the tragic situation in Gaza, describing it as responsible, ethical, and courageous.

The meeting, attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Jamal Amer, also discussed ways to strengthen relations between the Yemeni government and the World Health Organization. The focus was on addressing the country’s priorities, particularly in the health sector, and the impact of declining UN and international support on projects and emergency humanitarian interventions.

The measures taken by the government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, to address stalled externally funded projects and facilitate humanitarian work were also discussed.

In response, the UN official expressed regret over the ongoing critical humanitarian situation caused by the aggression and blockade, hoping for peace and stability in Yemen so that its people can enjoy comprehensive stability.

He also reiterated the United Nations’ commitment to fulfilling its humanitarian responsibilities.
