The Russian Investigative Committee confirmed that Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, commander of the Russian Army’s radiation, chemical and biological defense forces, was killed in an explosion in the capital Moscow on Tuesday morning.
The Investigative Committee said in a statement that an explosive device planted in an electric bicycle was detonated at the entrance to a residential building on Ryazansky Prospekt in Moscow on Tuesday morning, killing Kirillov and his assistant.
The statement indicated that an investigation and operational search procedures are being carried out to determine all the circumstances of the crime, adding that a criminal case has been opened into the deaths of the servicemen.
Reports indicated that the explosive device exploded as Kirillov and his assistant were leaving the building at around 6 am.
