The scope of the protests against the coalition government in Aden expanded on Monday. This comes as it has been unable to pay salaries for the third month in a row.
The protests extended to Al-Mahra Governorate on the far eastern coast of Yemen.
Hundreds of teachers gathered in front of the Education Office in the governorate to demand salaries.
The protests in Al-Mahra are an extension of a new round of protest activities started by teachers from Taiz, the hometown of the Presidential Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi.
The teachers’ protests are part of a wide series of strikes and protests witnessed by large sectors in the areas controlled by the coalition in the south, east and west of Yemen.
The protests come as the third month in a row has passed without salaries being paid, although they are not equivalent to the annual salary of a senior employee or a member of the Presidential Council.
