“Sheba Temptress ” Is For Sale At A Global Auction

The researcher specializing in antiquities, Abdullah Mohsen, said that a large votive statue made of marble painted with plaster from the antiquities of Yemen was put up for sale at an international auction, and its current location is unknown.

He confirmed – in a post on his Facebook page, which he called “The Temptress of Sheba”, that the statue is from the collection of Lucien and Irene Deloirs, Belgium, and was acquired around the fifties.

He continued: “Then it was presented to the current Belgian owner in the early sixties, whose heirs put it up for sale at the Bonhams auction on October 2, 2014, and we do not know its current location.”

He explained; “This majestic statue of a lady from Sheba stands, her feet firmly placed on a small, rectangular, integrated base.”

He added: “She also wears a long dress, tied at the waist, and ends at her calves above the ankle bracelets, and the statue is covered with a layer of colored plaster with engraved details.”

Mohsen had previously published about this statue years ago, and continued his description of the statue: “Its face is oval with a pointed chin, arched, engraved eyebrows, and large eyes with engraved pupils, perhaps intended for vaccination.”
