The US Central Command admitted on Sunday that it shot down an F-18 fighter jet in the Red Sea, with no pilots present, claiming the downing was “accidental” by friendly fire.
A statement from the US Central Command claimed that the cruiser USS Gettysburg in the USS Harry Roman carrier strike group opened fire by mistake and shot down an F/A-18 fighter jet that had taken off from the command post, claiming that the pilots were able to parachute and survive.
Brandon Crozet, a national affairs analyst at the National Interest magazine, questioned the US military’s account of the F/A-18 being shot down by friendly fire.
