Al-Qaeda in Yemen mourned two of its leaders on Tuesday.
This comes days after Yemeni forces stormed its stronghold in Al-Bayda Governorate, central Yemen.
The organization merely published a condolence message on its official social media page for the killing of the two leaders “Abu Ali Al-Disi” and Saleh Al-Dayouli.
The organization did not specify the circumstances and conditions of the killing of the two leaders. The condolence message came days after Sana’a forces announced the cleansing of new areas in Qifah, Al-Bayda Governorate, from terrorist cells after repeated attacks on security.
A number of those elements managed to escape to neighboring governorates, most notably Shabwa Governorate. The timing of the obituary suggests that those leaders were killed in clashes and their bodies were transferred to neighboring areas.
The announcement also exposes the United States, whose ambassador condemned the recent security campaign in Al-Bayda.
Al-Bayda has been the organization’s most prominent stronghold for decades, and the organization is trying to reorganize its ranks there despite the success of Sana’a forces in cleansing it during the last years of the Saudi-Emirati aggression on Yemen.
