British Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, confirmed that his country had sent unarmed surveillance flights over the Gaza Strip to locate Israeli prisoners held by Hamas in Gaza.
Lamy said that the Ministry of Defense is conducting surveillance flights over the eastern Mediterranean, including Gaza airspace, noting that these aircraft are unarmed, and their only mission is to locate prisoners.
Regarding Israel’s compliance with international humanitarian law during the war in Gaza, Lamy claimed in the letter to the committee that it was not possible to make an assessment of Israel’s compliance with the principle of proportionality, attributing this to the complex and contested information environment in Gaza as well as the difficulty of accessing specific and sensitive information.
