Foreign oil companies pay staggering amounts of money to faction leaders affiliated with the Saudi-led coalition in exchange for protection in the provinces of Shabwah and Hadhramaut, well-informed sources have reported.
Oil expert Abdulghani Gaghman shared details from a parliamentary report, revealing that oil companies spend over $238 million annually on security services to protect oil tankers.
He noted that the “Calvalley” company, operating in oil sector “9,” pays $2.4 million monthly to the commander of the “First Military Region,” Saleh Timas, who is loyal to the Islah party and the commander of the “37th Armored Brigade.” Additionally, the company pays $1.2 million each month for the protection of oil tankers.
The report also mentioned that the Austrian company “OMV,” which operates in the “S2” sector in Shabwah, pays $9.99 million per month to the “21st Brigade,” affiliated with Islah, for the protection of crude oil tankers.
Furthermore, the same company pays $4.32 million to the “23rd Brigade,” deployed along the Shabwah-Al Abr road, and more than $1 million to the leadership of the “107th Brigade” for additional protection of oil tankers.
