The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) and the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs said on Wednesday that two Palestinian detainees from the Gaza Strip have died in Israeli detention.

They said that 35-year-old Palestinian detainee Hamad Sharif al-Asali was arrested from al-Shifa Hospital during the aggression that took place in March 2024. His family later learned that he was being held in Ashkelon Prison. Then the family received a response from another institution that he was killed.

Al-Asali is a father of four children. According to his family, he did not suffer from any chronic health problems. During the aggression, all of his siblings were killed, leaving only his father. His mother also died while receiving treatment in Jerusalem and was buried in Ramallah.

As for Ibrahim Adnan Ashour, he was arrested on 2/14/2024 from Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis. According to his family, he didnot suffer from any health problems.

The prisoners’ institutions continued that the occupation is not satisfied with killing the detainees, but rather deliberately manipulates the responses regarding revealing their fate.

The institutions said that the killing of the detainees Al-Asali and Ashour constituted a new crime in the record of the Israeli brutality system, which has reached its peak since the beginning of the Israeli aggression.

The prisoners’ institutions held the occupation fully responsible for the killing of the detainees Al-Asali and Ashour.

They also renewed their demand for the international human rights system to move forward in taking effective decisions to hold the occupation leaders accountable for their war crimes, to impose sanctions on the occupation, to restore to the human rights system its fundamental role for which it was created, and to end the state of exceptional immunity that the old colonial states have granted to the occupying state of Israel, considering it above accountability and punishment.
