UN And European Union Welcome The Release Of “Galaxy Leader” Crew

The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, considered Sanaa’s release of the crew of the Galaxy Leader ship as “a step in the right direction.”

Grundberg said in a statement published by his office that the release of the ship’s crew after about 14 months of detention is “good news.” Calling for further steps to resume the Yemeni political process long awaited by millions of Yemenis.

Grundberg thanked the Sultanate of Oman for its “relentless and persistent” efforts in calling for the release of the crew of the Galaxy Leader.

In addition, the European Union welcomed Sanaa’s release of the crew of the Galaxy Leader ship, after more than 14 months of detention.

The EU mission to Yemen indicated in a statement that the release of the ship’s crew, which includes citizens of EU countries, alleviates the suffering of families and contributes to strengthening the necessary calm in the Red Sea region.

The Union expressed its deep thanks to the Sultanate of Oman for its role in facilitating the release process. The Union affirmed its commitment to continue supporting the efforts led by the United Nations to achieve lasting peace in Yemen.
