The United Nations has called on the Israeli occupation to reverse its decision to terminate the operations of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The UN Office for Human Rights issued a statement on the social media platform X, addressing the enforcement of Israel’s ban on UNRWA activities.
“Without UNRWA, food delivery, healthcare, education and other services would be drastically undermined in the occupied Palestinian territory, with direct and dire impacts on the human rights of tens of thousands of Palestinians,” the UN human right said in a post on “X”.
It added, “Israel’s law restricting UNRWA’s essential work should be repealed.”
The decision by the Tel Aviv government to end UNRWA’s activities in Israel and occupied East Jerusalem came into effect on Thursday.
International staff members of the agency have left the city of East Jerusalem due to the expiration of their Israeli permits, while local employees did not report to the agency’s offices.
