Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stressed that Tehran will not enter into negotiations with the United States as long as US President Donald Trump’s maximum pressure policy against Iran continues.
During a press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Tehran on Tuesday, Araghchi said, “Iran will continue to focus on its nuclear file with its international partners, especially Russia and China, without negotiating under threats or sanctions.”
The Iranian Foreign Minister added, “We will not negotiate under pressure, threats or sanctions, and there will be no possibility of direct negotiations between us and the United States on the nuclear issue as long as maximum pressure is applied in this way.”
Araghchi reiterated his country’s rejection of the displacement of the Palestinian people, referring to US President Donald Trump’s proposal to displace the people of Gaza in favor of Washington’s control over the Strip.
The Iranian Foreign Minister said, “The resistance in the region continues to struggle for just goals,” stressing Tehran’s support for its efforts.
Regarding the situation in Syria and the role of Moscow and Tehran in it, Araghchi said: “We have similar positions with Russia regarding Syria and we want security, peace and stability for it.”
In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov referred to the bilateral relations between the two countries, saying: “There is coordination with Iran and we have great dynamism in our trade exchanges with Tehran,” adding: “We have an excellent level of political dialogue with Iran.”
He explained that there is work to reduce the negative effects of sanctions on the economy, stressing that Russia and Iran support resolving conflicts in accordance with international laws and the principles of the United Nations. Regarding the situation in Syria, he said: “We are awaiting the results of the work of the Syrian National Council,” noting that the integrity of Syrian territory and the unity of its people are of great importance to Moscow.
Regarding the situation in the Middle East, Lavrov stressed that the problems in the region must be addressed in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations, especially the Palestinian issue. He touched on Tehran’s nuclear program, stressing that the best solution to the issue of the Iranian nuclear file is the diplomatic path and not force.
