The stations of the Earthquake and Volcano Monitoring and Study Center recorded, at dawn on Tuesday, a light earthquake below average with a magnitude of (3.3) on the Richter scale, 9 kilometers southwest of Al Bayda city, at 1:00 after midnight.
The head of the Earthquake and Volcano Monitoring and Study Center, Eng. Mohammed Hussein Al-Houthi, explained that the earthquake is one of the light below average earthquakes that residents felt.
He pointed out that the monitoring stations recorded dozens of light and medium seismic activities in Al Bayda governorate during the past two days, the highest of which was on Saturday evening at (7:48), with a magnitude of (2.9) on the Richter scale, 10 kilometers northwest of Al Bayda city, and at a depth of 2 kilometers from the surface of the earth, while it was followed by about 19 light earthquakes, the highest of which was with a magnitude of (2.6) degrees at (11:40) on Saturday evening.
He explained that the nature and type of the complex basement rocks in the area, in addition to the shallow depths of the earthquakes, which ranged between (2-4) kilometers, were among the factors that made the residents of those areas feel them despite them being weak tremors.
He stressed that the specialists at the center continue to monitor seismic activity around the clock.
