More Than 25 Religious Organizations Sue Trump Administration

American Associated Press revealed that more than 25 religious organizations have filed a lawsuit against the US authorities due to the threat of arresting immigrants in places of worship.

The agency indicated that more than 25 Christian and Jewish groups representing millions of Americans filed a lawsuit in a federal court, challenging the decision of the US President Donald Trump administration, which gives immigration officers more freedom to carry out arrests in places designated for worship.

The source stated that the lawsuit, which was filed in a court in the capital, Washington, states that due to fear of arrest, illegal immigrant parishioners avoid attending masses, which reduces the attendance rate.

The agency added: The plaintiffs believe that the US authorities are violating the rights of religious associations in their ability to serve immigrants.

The Associated Press explained that the US Department of Justice, for its part, issued a document last Friday stating that raiding immigrants in places of worship has been legal for several decades, and that the new administration’s procedures enabled officers to carry out their operations without prior permission from the supervisor only.

Trump promised in his first speech on his inauguration day, January 20, to stop illegal immigrants from entering the United States “immediately,” and to begin deporting millions of immigrants. He also declared a state of emergency across the country due to the situation on the southern border of the United States.

US Border Security Supervisor Tom Homan said that more than four thousand immigrants were deported from the United States in the first week of Trump’s presidency.
