2,700-Year-Old Gold Necklace Stolen From Seiyun

Yemeni researcher interested in antiquities Abdullah Mohsen revealed that the storehouse of Sayoun Museum was robbed in December 2023 in the city of Sayoun in Hadhramaut Governorate, which is under occupation.

Mohsen said in a post on his Facebook account that “among the stolen items was a gold necklace from the Kingdom of Hadhramaut from the antiquities of Yemen, consisting of 20 small cylindrical pieces, decorated at its outer edges with small beads, each piece independent of the other.”

He stated that one of the storehouses of the Sayoun Museum was robbed on December 29, 2023, and the museum administration immediately informed the official authorities of the photos and museum records of the stolen pieces, and the Public Prosecution Office took over the investigation into the incident, “and the procedures are still ongoing,” according to Mohsen.

He pointed out that “the administration of the Sayoun Museum is making great efforts to preserve the museum’s holdings and continue work in it despite the lack of capabilities and the lack of sufficient support from the government affiliated with the coalition and the failure of companies operating in Hadhramaut to adhere to the social responsibility policies that require them to support museums and archaeological and heritage sites.”
