FM Meets With WFP Resident Representative In Sana’a

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Jamal Amer met, on Tuesday,   with Pierre Onoura, the Resident Representative of the World Food Program in Sana’a. Pierre Onoura

The meeting focused on the sharp decline in funding from the World Food Program to Yemen.

This funding no longer meets the minimum needs of the most affected communities due to the ongoing siege imposed on Yemen by the aggression countries for the past ten years, compounded by large quantities of spoiled food aid.

During the meeting, Minister Amer expressed the Government of Change and Construction’s regret over the irresponsible and inhumane position taken by the UN Secretary-General when he announced the suspension of humanitarian work in Saada Governorate.

He emphasized that this decision was unbecoming of his position, despite the respect the Secretary-General has earned from the Yemeni leadership and people for his clear stance on the Palestinian issue and his rejection of the war crimes and genocide committed by the Zionist entity in the Gaza Strip.

The Foreign Minister called on the World Food Program to resume its missions in Saada Governorate and revoke the inhumane suspension decision, which tarnishes the image and reputation of the United Nations.

He emphasized that the decision targeted a remote governorate in a developing country already suffering from the worst humanitarian crisis in ten years, according to United Nations classifications.

In his turn,  the WFP Resident Representative explained that the program’s office is working to mobilize additional funding for its humanitarian efforts in Yemen.
