Informed Syrian sources revealed on Thursday that a number of foreign fighters who have flocked to fight alongside defense and security forces affiliated with the Takfiri groups in Syria are now controlling 19 areas within Syrian territory.
The Al-Maalouma news website quoted sources as saying, “Fighters of seven foreign nationalities, including Azeris, Chechens, Tajiks, and Uyghurs, form the backbone of these gangs and are imposing their influence in nine Syrian regions, particularly five in Idlib, in addition to other areas spread across Syria.”
The sources added, “These fighters primarily belong to Jabhat al-Nusra, which is on the international terrorist list, in addition to other groups and organizations no less extremist than Jabhat al-Nusra.” They noted that “the majority of them have joined the so-called New Syrian Security Apparatus through their alliance with al-Julani’s gangs.”
They pointed out that “these individuals are imposing their ideology in the areas where they are deployed and have begun to form social blocs that support them.
Consequently, we are facing extremist social camps that are no less dangerous than the Syrian al-Hawl camp.” It noted that “these groups are now attempting to move to several areas in Damascus and its suburbs by displacing residents and seizing homes and apartments under the pretext that they are close to al-Julani.”
The sources noted that “these gangs are dealing with the situation as if they are operating without any deterrent.”
It is worth noting that Syria has attracted thousands of extremists from various Arab and Islamic countries in recent years, particularly from countries in South and East Asia.
