The number of casualties from the “accidental bombing” of a fighter jet on a village in northern South Korea yesterday, Thursday, has risen to 29 people, including 15 civilians.
The South Korean news agency Yonhap quoted an official in the South Korean Ministry of Defense this morning, Friday, as saying that 15 civilians and 14 service members were injured in the bombing incident, including two civilians who were seriously injured.
Yesterday, Thursday, two “KF-16” fighter jets dropped eight “MK-82” bombs by mistake outside a training field in the city of Bucheon, about 40 kilometers north of the capital Seoul, resulting in multiple injuries and damage to buildings.
Yonhap news agency reported Thursday that 15 people were injured in the incident, and that several homes and a church were damaged, noting that the air force apologized to the country.
A mistake by the pilots is suspected to have caused the “accidental bombing” as one of them incorrectly entered the target’s coordinates before takeoff, according to another air force official, citing a preliminary investigation.
The exact cause of the incident is still under investigation.
