UN Rapporteur: Plan To Displace Gaza Palestinians Is An “Illusion”

The UN Special Rapporteur on the right to adequate housing, Balakrishnan Rajagopal, said that the idea of mass deportation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip is “a fantasy.”

He warned in a press interview last night that this would be “one of the biggest violations of international law in recent centuries.”

Rajagopal, during his speech, which comes on the sidelines of his participation in the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva (Switzerland), which began on February 24 and will continue until April 4, addressed the plan to forcibly displace Palestinians from the Strip, in addition to the ceasefire efforts in the Strip, and the reconstruction process.

He stressed the difficulty of achieving an effective reconstruction process in Gaza, if the Israeli occupation continues, and the risk of a large-scale confrontation remains.

In the past few weeks, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that Egypt and Jordan “will receive residents from the Gaza Strip.”

Trump has said more than once that the two countries should receive residents from the Strip, which was destroyed by a war that lasted more than 15 months.
