Indian security forces launched a manhunt on Wednesday in the Indian-controlled part of the Kashmir region, following a deadly armed attack that killed 26 tourists .
The attack targeted tourists in Pahalgam, which lies about 90 kilometres (55 miles) by road from the key city of Srinagar, according to Indian local media.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
In a separate incident, the Indian Army announced on Wednesday a “heavy exchange of fire” with gunmen it claimed were part of an “infiltration attempt” across the disputed border from Pakistan.
The army added that “two militants were neutralized.”
According to a list of victims issued by a local hospital and verified by police, all the victims were men, most of them from various parts of India, except for one tourist from Nepal.
