EU Prepares to Impose Additional Tariffs on US Despite Ongoing Negotiations

The European Union plans to impose additional tariffs on the United States despite ongoing negotiations with Washington.

CNBC reported on Wednesday that “the European Union is preparing to impose additional tariffs on the United States, despite negotiations with the administration of US President Donald Trump.”

Against this backdrop, EU Commission trade representative Olof Gill explained in an interview with CNBC that achieving a successful outcome in the negotiations would require significant joint efforts.

Gill stated: “The European Union is doing its part. Now, the United States must determine its position. As with any negotiation, reciprocity is essential.”

On April 2, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to impose “reciprocal” tariffs on imports from other countries.
