Yemen’s Minister of Information, Hashem Sharafuddin, has vowed to improve working conditions for Yemeni journalists, describing them as “the nation’s voice and conscience” in what he called an existential media war.
In a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), Minister Hashem Sharafuddin said, “We will not spare any effort in improving the conditions and overcoming the challenges, and providing the necessary support, as we fully recognize the importance of their role in this critical phase of Yemen’s history.”
He added, “Truly, journalists are Yemen’s voice and conscience – the impenetrable dam against all conspiracies targeting our people’s awareness and societal identity. They are the light that will illuminate the path to the radical change we seek, God Almighty willing.”
He noted that ‘journalists hold their ground in the arenas of media, just as their brothers stand firm on the frontiers—defending the nation’s sanctity, carrying torches of truth against storms of falsehood.
The Minister of Information emphasized that journalists are engaged in a battle no less fierce than the military struggle, a battle that requires a special kind of courage—the courage of truthful words and unwavering national stance—in the face of systematic disinformation campaigns.
He particularly acknowledged the media professionals in public media, describing them as national heroes who work under difficult challenges and in extremely harsh conditions that would break mountains. Despite these challenges, their resolve and willpower have only grown stronger and firmer.
The Minister Sharafuddin continued, “Despite the painful reduction in their wages and the strain caused by scarce resources, they remain great heroes in this decisive battle. They sacrifice their time and health, enduring immense living pressures to deliver the voice of free Yemen and its proud people, to guide public opinion, and to protect the nation’s faith and identity.”
The Minister of Information concluded his remarks by stating: “Perhaps many fail to fully comprehend the magnitude of the sacrifices made by public media journalists—both materially and spiritually—in the service of God and the victory of the nation. But God Almighty is aware, and their reward will not be lost. Our leadership will never forget their sacrifices, nor will it overlook their heroic role in defending the dignity and pride of Yemen.”
