On Sunday, a meeting chaired by Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Samir Baja’alah, discussed coordination mechanisms between the ministry and international organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Yemeni Red Crescent, to provide emergency aid to those affected by US aggression.
The meeting discussed the consequences of the US aggression since mid-March, which has targeted residential areas and civilian objects in the capital, Sana’a, and other provinces.
The meeting reviewed the role of United Nations and non-governmental organizations, the Red Cross, and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees during times of war.
During the meeting, Minister Baja’alah emphasized the importance of establishing cooperation and coordination mechanisms to ensure the integration of efforts between the Ministry and its offices in the capital and provinces, the International Red Cross, and the Yemeni Red Crescent in delivering emergency aid, including cash, shelter, medical care, and psychological support, to alleviate the humanitarian suffering caused by the aggression against civilians and port workers.
He expressed regret over some organizations’ failure to fulfill their humanitarian role due to political pressures, while commending the ICRC for maintaining its impartiality.”
Head of the ICRC delegation, Christine Cipolla, reaffirmed the ICRC’s non-political stance and its continued operations in Yemen, highlighting cooperation with the Yemeni Red Crescent in providing aid and supporting hospitals.
She reviewed ICRC interventions and the plan to support hospitals, emphasizing the need for an increased response due to escalating airstrikes on residential areas. She also expressed readiness to support the Yemeni Red Crescent’s aid plan.
Cipolla stressed the importance of expanded government coordination with international organizations to ensure the safety of aid crews.
