FM Minister Discusses Enhancing Cooperation With UN Official for Safety, Security Sector

Foreign Minister Jamal Amer met with Manuel Antonio, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Division at the United Nations Department of Safety and Security, along with his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, Amer was briefed on the measures that the Department of Safety and Security plans to implement in response to the financial crisis currently facing the UN. These measures aim to reduce logistical and security expenses at UN facilities and offices worldwide.

Minister Amer raised concerns about the significant reduction in humanitarian aid provided to Yemen by the United Nations and its agencies, which has dropped by nearly 80% compared to 2024.

He described this as an escalation against the Republic of Yemen, highlighting the suspension of humanitarian operations in Saada Governorate, a move he linked to Yemen’s support for Gaza.

For his part, Manuel Antonio expressed appreciation for the support Yemen has provided to the United Nations, particularly during the ongoing financial crisis, which has forced the organization to significantly cut expenditures and terminate contracts for many of its staff in various countries.
