UN rapporteur: Palestinians Must Be Allowed Self-Determination

UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Palestine, Francesca Albanese, called on Wednesday for Palestinians to be allowed to enjoy the right to self-determination.

Albanese said in press statements that it is “wrong to allow Israel to continue to control Gaza or to continue to rule the West Bank.”

Albanese described the war of extermination on the Gaza Strip as “the most sadistic and militarized” since the end of World War II in 1945, stating that “people are being killed by the dozens and hundreds in a matter of hours, and nothing is left.”

The UN Special Rapporteur stressed that the facts on the ground in Palestine are extremely tragic, and the illegitimacy of the occupation and its associated infrastructure is becoming increasingly clear.

She explained that ethnic cleansing has been a constant feature of Palestinian life under occupation since the Palestinian Nakba in 1948 and continues to this day in various forms.

Albanese noted that international law obliges all member states not to recognize the consequences of an illegal occupation
