A team from the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA), headed by Mohammed Rafiq Al Islam, inspected the damage on Wednesday caused by the US airstrikes targeting the branch office of the Maritime Affairs Authority at the Port of Hodeidah. The attacks has left the facility completely non-functional.
The team was briefed by Dr. Ibrahim Al-Mushki, director of the authority’s branch, who explained the extensive damage inflicted on the building and its technical infrastructure due to the US bombing.
He highlighted the serious repercussions of US bombing on maritime safety and the marine environment.
Dr. Al-Mushki stressed that the authority is a civilian facility and an active member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), noting the attack constitutes a violation of international laws and conventions.
The UN team expressed outrage over the level of destruction and stressed that the mission would do everything possible to document and report the damage caused by the airstrikes.
The team also visited the docks at the Port of Hodeidah, where they observed the efforts of port leadership and workers in receiving vessels and unloading food shipments.
