The Israeli occupation authorities since Wednesday morning have been facing major fires that broke out in large areas of the mountains of Quds (Jerusalem).
Despite the use of firefighting aircraft and the call-in of Israeli military forces, efforts to contain the fires have been largely unsuccessful.
According to the “Yedioth Ahronoth” newspaper, at least 12 people suffocated due to heavy smoke inhalation.
The fires also approached the main roads within the city, forcing the authorities to temporarily close some of them.

As the fires continue to increase and the fire areas expand, the newspaper reported that Netanyahu’s government is considering requesting urgent assistance from five countries: Cyprus, Greece, Croatia, Italy, and a fifth country that has not yet been revealed.
In another development, Channel 12 quoted Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announcing that the country was in a state of “national emergency,” stressing the need to harness all capabilities to control the fire and rescue trapped civilians.
In addition, Katz ordered Chief of Staff General Eyal Zamir to provide full support to the fire brigades.
