Abdel Nasser Al-Ajrami, head of the Bakeries Owners Association in Gaza, confirmed on Monday that all bakeries in the central Gaza Strip, which had worked with the World Food Programe, have ceased operations.
According to the Palestine Today News Agency, Al-Ajrami explained that the quantities of bread produced were barely sufficient for 10% of the population in the central region.
He pointed out that problems and raids on bakeries were occurring due to hunger and the need for bread and flour, in addition to the limited quantities of bread produced.
Al-Ajrami explained that the association sent a letter to the United Nations World Food Programe stating its inability to work with this mechanism, demanding that it distribute flour to citizens through international organizations in the first phase.
Al-Ajrami said that the organization informed us that the Israeli side refuses to distribute flour to citizens, but rather works through bakeries.
