The death toll from an Israeli airstrike targeting a school sheltering displaced families in Gaza’s Al-Daraj neighborhood rose to at least 36.
According to local sources, among the dead were numerous women and children, with many victims found severely burned.
The pre-dawn strike that targeted the Fahmi Al-Jarjawi School claimed the lives of dozens of families who sought refuge inside the school. The attack sparked massive fires that quickly engulfed tents erected in the schoolyard, leaving dozens of civilians injured and killed.
Videos circulating on social media showed flames tearing through the compound, with disturbing scenes of children among the dead and wounded.
Israel’s military campaign—launched on October 7, 2023—has so far resulted in the killing of at least 53,939 people, with nearly 122,000 reported injured. Emergency rescue teams continue to face severe challenges accessing bombed areas, due to ongoing bombardment.
