Foreign Minister Briefed On Outcomes Of ICRC Mission’s Visit to Saada

Foreign Minister Jamal Amer met on Saturday with Christine Cipolla, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission in Yemen.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister was briefed on the outcomes of the ICRC’s visit to Saada Province and the humanitarian repercussions of the war crime committed by the US administration in its attack on a shelter for undocumented migrants.

Minister Amer praised the ICRC’s swift response in providing urgent medical assistance amid the complete absence of the United Nations following the UN Secretary-General’s unjust decision to suspend humanitarian operations in Saada.

He highlighted the ICRC’s longstanding record of independence and neutrality, emphasizing its work free from political pressures worldwide. He also commended the ICRC’s mission in Yemen for upholding full impartiality and maintaining independence from political decisions, including the US designation and the ongoing military aggression deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.

For her part, Cipolla reaffirmed the ICRC’s commitment to fulfilling its humanitarian mission with complete neutrality and independence from any political decisions.

She noted that the ICRC’s headquarters in Geneva views the UN Secretary-General’s decision to suspend humanitarian operations in Saada as a political act. Nevertheless, she stressed that the ICRC will maintain its presence in Yemen to continue delivering humanitarian aid.
