The Hamas Movement has called on the Arab summit being held in the Iraqi capital Baghdad to shoulder its historical responsibilities and take practical steps to stop the war of genocide and lift the siege on the Gaza Strip.
“The Gaza Strip is being subjected to one of the most brutal attacks, as the occupation continues to commit massacres against civilians, targeting residential neighborhoods and shelters, resulting in hundreds of martyrs and wounded, amid a suffocating siege and a complete cutoff of aid,” Hamas said in a press statement on Saturday.
It stressed that the northern Gaza Strip is witnessing a systematic campaign of annihilation, with escalating air and artillery bombardment, forcing hundreds of families to flee their homes to escape death and missiles.
“What is happening is a complete genocide being committed before the eyes of the world, which stands helpless, while more than two and a half million people are being slaughtered in the besieged Gaza Strip,” Hamas added.
The Movement called on the Arab summit to shoulder its historical responsibilities, take practical steps to halt the aggression and lift the siege, and implement the Riyadh summit decisions to break the siege and ensure aid entry. “We also demand the imposition of urgent Arab and international sanctions on the fascist occupation and the prosecution of its leaders as war criminals,” it said.
Hamas also urged the peoples of the world and all free forces to escalate an urgent global solidarity campaign to expose Israel’s crimes and denounce its policy of extermination and starvation.
The Arab summit in Baghdad is being held amid regional divisions and escalating challenges, foremost among which is the ongoing war on Gaza, where Arab leaders are expected to issue a unified position on these developments, amid mounting demands to take positions that go beyond mere condemnation.
