German Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasized that the moment has arrived to finalize a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, where Israel has been waging a devastating war since October 2023.
Addressing the German parliament, he urged for the humane treatment of Palestinians in Gaza, particularly women, children, and the elderly.
“Now—today—is the time to secure a ceasefire in Gaza,” Merz declared.
Backed by unwavering U.S. support, Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, ongoing since October 7, 2023, has resulted in near-genocidal violence, with roughly 188,000 Palestinians killed or injured—the majority being women and children—alongside over 11,000 missing and hundreds of thousands forcibly displaced.
