Former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has sharply criticized European Union foreign ministers for their failure to take any steps to hold Israel accountable for its human rights violations in the Gaza Strip.
In a post on the “X” platform regarding the results of Tuesday’s ministerial meeting in Brussels, Borrell stated that such inaction would allow the “genocide being committed by Israel against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to continue unabated.”
Borrell accused the EU of failing to make a decision regarding Israel’s violation of the human rights clause in their partnership agreement.
He asserted, “Europe has decided not to punish Israel for ongoing war crimes and to allow the genocide in Gaza to continue unabated.”
Despite the EU’s review of the partnership agreement with Israel and its confirmation that Tel Aviv is violating human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, no sanctions were imposed on Israel during the foreign ministers’ meeting.
