Senator: US Can’t Finance Government Responsible for 60, 000 Palestinian

Senator Bernie Sanders stated Tuesday evening that the United States “cannot continue to fund a government that has killed some 60,000 Palestinians and injured more than 143,000 others, most of whom are women, children, and the elderly.”

Sanders added that the U.S. “cannot continue to support a government that has blocked aid, caused widespread famine, and literally starved the people of Gaza,” referring to the Israeli government, according to the Palestinian Safa news agency.

He emphasized that taxpayers have spent “tens of billions supporting the racist and extremist government of war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court.”

Sanders announced he would force a Senate vote on two resolutions aimed at preventing arms sales to “Israel” due to the famine in Gaza.

This development follows calls from Democratic senators for the resumption of “good faith and swift” negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza, along with demands to expand aid into the Strip.

This push was led by a group of Democrats including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Adam Schiff. Their objective is to pressure the Trump administration to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and address what they described as a “humanitarian crisis.”

According to The Hill newspaper, 40 Democratic representatives warned in a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff that the situation in Gaza is “unsustainable and getting worse by the day.” They clarified that “hunger and malnutrition are widespread,” leading to deaths from starvation, particularly among children.
