UNICEF: Horrific Reports of 7 Children Killed in Gaza Awaiting Water

Catherine Russell, Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), expressed her shock over reports of 7 children ascending [martyred] in the Gaza Strip while waiting to receive water at a distribution point.

Executive Director Catherine Russell said that this horrific incident comes just days after other children and women ascended [were martyred] while waiting to receive food aid.

Catherine Russell stressed that targeting children and women in such circumstances constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law.

The UNICEF Executive Director demanded that Israeli authorities immediately review their rules of engagement and take all necessary measures to protect civilians, especially children, in accordance with what international law dictates.

UNICEF affirmed that children in Gaza are paying a heavy price due to the ongoing war, calling for an immediate ceasefire and ensuring the safe arrival of humanitarian aid to those in need.

An Israeli airstrike on Sunday resulted in the martyrdom of 10 children at a water distribution point in central Gaza, according to Al-Awda Hospital. Meanwhile, a video clip from the chaotic scene showed many victims, including children.

Officials in Gaza said that at least ten, mostly children, were martyred and more than 12 were injured in the central sector in a missile strike targeting a water distribution point.

The Israeli enemy army claimed that it was targeting a militant from the Islamic Jihad movement in the area, but the missile malfunctioned, causing it to fall dozens of meters from its target.

This, with the continuation of the destructive Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and the humanitarian catastrophe exacerbating day by day, ceasefire negotiations remain stalled due to the Israeli enemy’s intransigence regarding the Israeli withdrawal from the sector.

The indirect talks in Doha, which address a U.S. proposal for a 60-day ceasefire, have made little progress.
