The General Authority for Antiquities and Museums published today a new list of looted Yemeni artifacts.
The authority indicated that the 53 looted items are currently displayed at the Museum of Islamic Art in the State of Kuwait.
The statement pointed out that this list is the 27th issued by the authority as part of its ongoing efforts to monitor and track Yemeni archaeological pieces exhibited in auctions and museums abroad.
The General Authority for Antiquities called on international bodies concerned to halt such auctions due to their violation of international laws related to this matter and to restore the rights to their rightful owners. It urged anyone with information about looted artifacts or sites to come forward and contact the authority through its official social media pages.
Since 2015, Yemen has been under a devastating assault by a Saudi-led coalition supported by the United States and Britain. Described by the UN as the worst humanitarian crisis of our time, the war has resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths, widespread famine, and the collapse of essential infrastructure. But beyond the human cost, Yemen’s cultural heritage has also been deeply scarred.
