Yemen’s Parliament strongly criticized the UN Security Council on Sunday, rejecting its decision to extend sanctions on Yemen for another year and accusing the Council of adopting policies that contradict the aspirations of nations resisting foreign domination.
In a statement, the parliament said the Security Council’s move reflects a “biased approach” aligned with US, Israeli agendas in the region. It argued that the same body that overlooks the war crimes committed against Palestinians with prohibited American weapons is also ignoring the decade-long blockade and military operations carried out by the US-British-Saudi-Emirati coalition in Yemen.
The statement accused the Council of maintaining a consistent bias toward the “Zionist lobby,” remaining silent in the face of Israeli enemy escalations across the region and reinforcing the worst forms of double standards in dealing with regional crises.
According to the parliament, the Security Council’s continued disregard for widespread civilian suffering in Gaza and elsewhere has effectively made it a partner in enabling Israeli enemy by providing political cover for military actions in both Palestine and Yemen. This, it said, represents a blatant violation of international law and humanitarian norms.
The Parliament warned that such a trajectory has transformed the Security Council into “a pliant tool in the hands of the Israelis, Americans, and their regional allies.” It called for an end to what it described as “double-standard policies” toward Yemen and Palestine, urging the Council instead to uphold international law and hold Israeli enemy officials accountable for alleged war crimes in the region.
The statement concluded by reaffirming Yemen’s steadfast position in supporting the causes of the Arab and Islamic nation and resisting any foreign schemes targeting the country’s unity, sovereignty, and stability.
