Australia: Father & Son Behind Sydney Shooting That Left 16 Dead

Australian authorities announced that the attack on a Jewish community celebration at Bondi Beach in Sydney on Sunday left 16 people dead and at least 40 others injured. The attack was carried out by a father and son.

AFP quoted New South Wales police as saying via X early Monday morning local time that “16 people have died and 40 are still receiving hospital treatment following yesterday’s shooting incident in Bondi.”

The statement did not clarify whether this toll included one of the gunmen, who was killed in the attack.

Police had previously reported 11 dead and 29 injured.

Australian police announced that the two gunmen were a man in his fifties and his 24-year-old son.

New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon told reporters that the 50-year-old attacker “is dead. The 24-year-old is currently in hospital.” He added, “I can confirm that we are not looking for any additional attackers.”
