Deputy Foreign Minister meets UN Regional Coordinator

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Abdulwahid Abu Ras, held a virtual meeting on Monday with the UN Regional Coordinator for Communication on Detained UN Staff, Moein Ahmed Shreim.

During the meeting, the Deputy Minister affirmed the Government of Change and Construction’s commitment to preserving the longstanding relationship between Yemen and the United Nations, and to ensuring the continuation of the UN’s humanitarian role in the country.

He stressed the need for the international organization to address and correct the imbalances that have affected its work in recent periods.

Abu Ras noted that the recent targeting of the Government of Change and Construction, and the involvement of several UN employees in this “heinous act,” had negatively impacted cooperation between the two sides. This, he said, requires the UN to take serious steps to restore the trust of the Yemeni people.

He also pointed out that the security agencies had fulfilled their duties within their responsibility to safeguard the country, emphasizing that Yemen’s security and stability are a red line that cannot be compromised.

For his part, Moein Shreim reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to its relationship with Yemen and its determination to continue cooperation across various fields in ways that serve the Yemeni people and help alleviate their humanitarian suffering.
