The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the prisoner exchange agreement concluded on Tuesday in the Omani capital, Muscat, with Saudi Arabia and other parties.
In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the ministry expressed Yemen’s—leadership, government, and people—appreciation to the sisterly Sultanate of Oman for its major role in the Yemen settlement file, including the prisoner issue. The statement noted that today’s agreement includes the release of 1,700 of our prisoners in exchange for 1,200 prisoners from the other parties, among them seven Saudis and 23 Sudanese.
The ministry also extended its sincere congratulations to the families of the prisoners who will be reunited with their relatives after years of hardship and waiting, and commended the role played by the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen and the International Committee of the Red Cross in this regard.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed hope that this step will help unlock the remaining humanitarian files, leading to an end to the aggression , blockade and the establishment of peace in Yemen.
