The Government Media Office in Gaza announced today, Saturday, that the recent low-pressure system (cold front) that struck the Strip constituted a compound humanitarian disaster, noting that one million displaced people were harmed by its repercussions.
Ismail Al-Thawabta, Director of the Government Media Office, revealed in a press conference that the preliminary losses due to the cold front amounted to approximately $4 million, confirming that water transmission lines were disrupted in dozens of temporary shelter centers.
He explained that 13 homes collapsed in addition to the washing away and flooding of more than 27,000 tents due to the heavy rains.
He added that dozens of temporary medical points ceased operation, while the Israeli enemy continues to close the crossings and prevents the entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip.
Al-Thawabta held the Israeli enemy directly responsible for the humanitarian situation in the Strip, demanding that the international community and mediators move urgently to pressure for the opening of the crossings.
Al-Thawabta concluded by stating that more than one and a half million displaced people are residing in shelter centers and areas of forced displacement, and that the humanitarian situation throughout the Strip is becoming increasingly catastrophic.
