A high-level Hamas delegation, headed by its leader in Gaza Khalil al-Hayya, met on Saturday with Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin in Istanbul.
“The meeting addressed ceasefire implementation progress in Gaza, mechanisms to enforce Israel’s first-phase commitments, and transitioning to phase two,” Hamas said in a statement released on Saturday evening.
During the meeting, the Hamas delegation reaffirmed the resistance’s commitment to upholding the ceasefire in Gaza, while highlighting the ongoing violations committed by the Israeli occupation army, which have claimed more than 400 lives since the agreement came into effect.
The Hamas delegation briefed the Turkish official on Gaza’s escalating humanitarian plight this winter, emphasizing the urgent need for tents, mobile homes, and heavy machinery to protect residents from freezing cold and floodwaters.
The delegation also called for necessarily intensifying global and regional efforts to channel relief supplies and medical aid throughout the Strip.
The two sides discussed Türkiye’s role in creating the necessary conditions for moving to the second phase of ceasefire talks to address outstanding issues.
The Hamas delegation concluded the meeting by expressing deep appreciation for Türkiye’s strong support for Palestinian rights, while commending the Turkish leadership for its supportive positions and ongoing relief efforts.
