MSF: 29-Day-Old Infant Dies of Severe Cold in Gaza’s Nasser Hospital

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) announced on Friday that a 29-day-old infant passed away at Nasser Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip due to extreme cold and a total lack of survival essentials.

The organization stated that the infant arrived at its supported pediatric ward in the early hours of Thursday morning but died only two hours later despite resuscitation efforts. According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, the death was caused by a severe drop in body temperature.

Bilal Abu Saada, a nursing supervisor at Nasser Hospital, explained that infants are arriving with vital signs near collapse due to the freezing conditions, noting that even the best medical efforts are often not enough to save them.

He emphasized that while some claim the war is over, the population continues to struggle for basic survival. MSF warned that the harsh winter and deteriorating living conditions are driving a surge in respiratory infections among children under five.

Currently, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians remain in dilapidated tents flooded by rainwater, prompting MSF to renew its urgent call for Israeli authorities to significantly increase the flow of humanitarian aid into the Strip.
