Ismail Thawabta, Director General of the Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip, warned of an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe striking the Strip as thousands of displaced families’ tents were flooded and swept away by waves, rain, and strong winds, he stressed that what is happening represents a true test of the international community’s conscience.
In a press statement, Thawabta outlined five urgent demands to address the rapidly deteriorating situation on the ground in the Strip: the immediate and unconditional opening of the crossings to allow the entry of mobile homes (caravans) and weather-resistant tents, and the provision of safe and sustainable shelter to protect the displaced from the bitter cold, as an alternative to the dilapidated temporary solutions.
