The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sana’a has welcomed the Algerian Parliament’s unanimous approval of a law criminalizing French colonialism.
The legislation demands a formal apology and compensation for damages incurred during 132 years of colonial rule.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the ministry described the move as a vital step in protecting Algeria’s national memory and historical rights, asserting that nations never forget those who cause them harm.
The statement highlighted that French colonialism involved war crimes and genocide resulting in millions of martyrs—acts it characterized as “crimes against humanity.”
The ministry called on parliaments worldwide to adopt similar measures to ensure historical justice for all nations affected by colonialism. It expressed regret over ongoing “neo-colonial” practices, such as violating state sovereignty and the use of force in international affairs.
