22 countries, along with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), issued a joint statement on Thursday condemning the visit made by an “Israeli” official to the so-called “Somaliland,” considering it an illegal visit and a clear violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Somalia.
The statement affirmed that this visit constitutes a breach of the United Nations Charter and the principles of international law, representing a direct assault on Somali sovereignty, warning that such actions undermine stability in the region and encourage separatist agendas, according to Quds Press Agency.
The signatory countries and the OIC renewed their full support for the Federal Republic of Somalia, confirming their commitment to Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and rejecting any steps or practices that would harm these constants.
The statement emphasized that encouraging separatist tendencies or dealing with them individually is unacceptable due to the risks it carries of exacerbating tensions and destabilizing security and stability in the Horn of Africa region.
This joint stance comes in the context of increasing warnings about the repercussions of any actions outside international legal frameworks, and calls to respect state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs.
