Head of Yemen’s National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs, Abdulqader al-Murtadha, has renewed his call on the Saudi-backed side and all its factions to engage seriously and refrain from placing obstacles to the implementation of the recently signed Muscat prisoner exchange agreement.
In a post on his X account, al-Murtadha said the agreed date for implementing the Muscat deal is January 27, but noted that the lists of prisoners and detainees to be included in the exchange have yet to be finalized.
He added that completing the process would require additional time, stressing the need for cooperation from all sides.
“We hope all parties will act positively and with credibility at this stage, and avoid creating obstacles that would hinder the implementation of the agreement,” al-Murtadha said.
His remarks come a month after the signing of the Muscat agreement, which stipulates the exchange of 2,900 prisoners from both sides. According to al-Murtadha, the other party has so far failed to submit its prisoner lists, a move further evidence of continued obstruction of this humanitarian issue.
